Spring Player Development Season

What is the Spring Player Development Season?

Is this “AAU??”

(NO… NO… NO!… Keep reading).

page-0DSC_8036I get this confusion a LOT.

Part of it is my fault.  A long time ago, I started a spring program that was all about player development instruction.  It became huge, very successful, wildly popular: Because of the positive effects that it was having on players and their tremendous improvement that resulted from training the way that we approached each player’s development.

**(Many players that have trained this way have had tremendous success in high school, college, 1 became NATIONAL D3 Player of the Year. WOW!!! Another a top 5 Nationally recognized shooting guard. And some have gone on to have exceptional professionally careers internationally and are still training to play professionally).

AWESOME!!!

Current Fiba International Pro, Mike Callaghan, Spain.  Former National Player Of the Year, Jaci Daignault.  Centennial Conference Player of the Year, Tucker Landy. Sam Markle, Irish League MVP.

So I have been called everything from “The Fundamental Man” to “The Rainman of Basketball.”

(Even more AWESOME!!… haha!)

So what’s the problem??

There isn’t one, really.  Except people came to know me as The Fundamental Man.  And people came to know the skill development program that I ran in the spring as The Wizards.  I mean, I had to name the program SOMETHING.

My good friend is nicknamed  “The Wizard.”   So I just named the program after him, and revised the logo.

The problem with this is that people would say, my kid already plays, “AAU.” And I would say, “NO, NO, NO.  It’s not an AAU program. That’s not what we do.” So I tried to change the name… To TEAM FUNDAMENTAL because everyone already knew me as TFM – The Fundamental Man.  (Get it, Team Fun-da-Mental!)…

But the kids all liked The Wizards better, so I kept it. (eh, well).

Even though I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT WHEN SOMEONE CALLS ME an “AAU” Coach.”

Kobe Rips AAUWhy? Because… Like Kobe, and many others, I pretty much hate “AAU” basketball for what it has done to the game.

So what do we do in the gym that is so much different???
